2009 Resident - Junior Naturalist Outdoors Adventure Camp (JNOAC)

Over the past 5 years American Adventure Sports, LLC has produced more than 15 JNOAC's in 6 different locations. Since 2004 more than 500 campers have learned how to assess & manage risk while playing in the great outdoors. We have conducted more than 100 hours of Conservation Education & completed countless Environmental Enhancement Projects. Many of our campers return year after year which we consider a testament to our high standards & the quality of our product. It gives us great satisfaction to see our returning campers advanced & evolving skill sets.

We are excited to announce that in 2009 AAS will be producing two (2) Resident JNOAC camps.

The 1st JNOAC Platform this summer will be at beautiful Camp Olmsted from July 5th through the 10th. Camp Olmsted www.cccbsa.com is located on the Kinzua Reservoir near Russell, PA. This spectacular camp is located in the heart of the Alleghany National Forest. We are proud to be supported by the Warren YMCA www.warrenymca.org and the Warren County Chamber of Business & Industry www.wccbi.org.

The August camp will be moving to beautiful Camp Harmony www.campharmony.org/facilities/activities.html

Located just south of Johnstown Pennsylvania, Camp Harmony & Quemahoning Damn make for an excellent platform to produce the JNOAC. The camp also offers many improvements & amenities including, the beautiful Harmony Lodge & conference center, a 55' rappel/climbing tower, both a high & low ropes course & a 300' water slide & swim pool. The camp staff will also be catering breakfast & dinner for our JNOAC campers.  This camp sold out in 2008 & is limited to 36 campers in 2009 on a 1st come, 1st serve basis.

This years educational emphasis is on renewable energy. Campers will learn about & experiment with both wind & solar energy.

The Resident Junior Naturalist Outdoor Adventure Camp (JNOAC) in it's 3rd year ,encourages children, ages 7 to 12, to explore their natural world through participation in Outdoor Adventure Sports, Environmental Enhancement Projects & Conservation Education. Activities include: Orienteering, Canoeing, Kayaking, Yoga, Rock Climbing, Rappelling, Fishing, Fresh Water Snorkeling, Wilderness Survival, Tracking, Hiking, Astronomy, Ultimate Frisbee, Camp Fire Songs, Environmental Enhancement Projects & Conservation Education. All meals will be healthy and nutritious (we use locally grown & organic foods as much as possible). Daily physical fitness activities will promote a healthy lifestyle. Campers are encouraged to get dirty, get sweaty, play hard & laugh a lot..... while exploring their natural world.

Mission: Our goal is to cultivate an active lifestyle & love for nature through participation in Outdoor Adventure Sports, Conservation Education & Environmental Enhancement Projects. At JNOAC, children learn the importance of protecting their environment through Conservation Education. Campers receive 8 hours of Conservation Education and, are certified as Junior Naturalists. AAS partners with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources, several universities, the National Aviary & numerous other private businesses & non profit agencies to provide the best conservation education possible for our campers.

Campers learn to assess and manage risk, water safety, water rescue, wilderness 1st aid and CPR familiarization. Most importantly, we teach campers to trust their instincts & to take time to make good decisions. Tools that will make their daily lives more safe.
Environmental Enhancement Projects give children ownership of their environment, encourages environmental stewardship and places an emphasis on teamwork. Campers are encouraged to learn at a pace that is comfortable for them. Having one mentor for every seven campers maximizes learning opportunities. Values such as respect, courage, honesty & integrity are our cornerstones.

Our instructors are Swift Water Rescue certified, CPR certified & Wilderness 1st Aid certified. We have several certified Rappel Masters, Lifeguards, Leave No Trace trainers & a Mountaineering Instructor on staff.
